Excel Healthcare is currently seeking an Occupational Therapy Assistant for an acute hospital based in Navan. As an Occ. Therapy Assistant, you will work under the guidance of a qualified Occupational Therapist. This is a fantastic opportunity for any occupational therapy students, or current healthcare assistants looking to gain more experience in occupational health.

This is an ongoing, agency contract for 35hrs per week.

Responsibilities of an Occupational Therapist Assistant:

  • Manage own caseload, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of treatment programs for service users according to service standards.
  • Collaborate with service users, family, carers and other staff in treatment / intervention planning and in the provision of support and advice.
  • Follow treatment plans as determined and delegated by an Occupational Therapist.
  • Be competent in carrying out cognitive assessments, functional assessments and competent ADL equipment assessments.
  • Exhibit clinical knowledge, reasoning skills, and evidence-based practices necessary for fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the role in accordance with relevant legislation and standards.
  • Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front-line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team.
  • Ensure the quality of documentation for all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and discharge summaries, in accordance with local service and professional standards.

Requirements for this Occupational Therapist Assistant job:

  • Possess relevant QQI 5 certificates with occupational therapy assistant modules 1 and 2.
  • Currently work at Occupational Therapy Assistant or Healthcare Assistant role for at least 1 year.
  • Be willing to acquire the appropriate Occupational Therapy Assistant training program within a certain period of time of undertaking the duty.
  • High levels of organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to develop strong effective relationships with children, adolescents and families.
  • Full Irish license and access to a vehicle.
